The Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge paid tribute to more than 150 couples who are marking milestone wedding anniversaries in 2009. The Bishop celebrated a Wedding Anniversary Mass for the jubilarians on Sunday, May 17 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Raleigh. Those attending are celebrating their 25th, 50th and 50-plus years of marriage.

Approximately 150 married couples took part in two special Milestone Anniversary Masses celebrated by the Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge on May 6 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Raleigh. Twelve of the couples are celebrating more than 60 years of marriage, with one couple celebrating their 67th anniversary.

The combined number of years totaled more than 6,300, a fact that Bishop Burbidge attributed as a testament to each couple and their decision to make Jesus the foundation and center of their marriage and family life. “Today, you help us to lift up the vocation of marriage defined by God and taught by the Church as the sacred union of one man and one woman, as the visible sign of the love He has for His people; a love from which flows the precious gift of life.”
