The Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge ordained Brother Michel Bineen Mukad, a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Order, to the transitional diaconate at a Mass, Saturday, February 16, 2013, celebrated at St. Eugene Church in Wendell.
Fifteen priests, including Fr. Johanes Teguh Raharjo, CICM, pastor at St. Eugene; Fr. Ryan Carnecer Zamora, CICM, parochial vicar at St. Eugene; Fr. Charles P. Khonde, CICM US Provincial; and Msgr. David Brockman, Vicar General, concelebrated the Mass and Rite of Ordination to the Diaconate.
Prior to the Laying on of Hands, Bishop Burbidge spoke to Brother Michel in the homily. "We celebrate today … the Lord has called and chosen you, Brother Michel, to be His deacon and, God willing, one day His priest," said Bishop Burbidge. "Use your many talents, youth and creativity to proclaim the Gospel in all its richness with boldness, joy and clarity in order to help others to see the Truth.
"Brother Michel, the Ordination Rite reminds you that you are a 'herald of the Gospel.' In this Year of Faith and always," Bishop Burbidge said, "be on fire with the Word of God! Use your many talents, youth and creativity to proclaim the Gospel in all its richness with boldness, joy and clarity in order to help others to see the Truth of the Gospel as that which guides them in the midst of the darkness of this world."
Born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, (now) Deacon Michel studied in the Republic of Cameroon before moving to the United States in 2010. "I’m so happy to see the community of St. Eugene come here for me," he said as he smiled and looked around the sanctuary following the ordination. "It’s God’s grace … I am so blessed."
With God’s grace, Deacon Michel is scheduled to be ordained to the Priesthood in 2014.
