Diocesan Weekly Radio Program Available on Website and Podcast
The current week’s edition of Catholic Weekly, the Diocesan half-hour radio program, features an interview with Dr. John Pendergrass, Diocesan Director of the Office of Child and Youth Protection. April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month in the United States. Dr. Pendergrass discusses the Diocesan Safe Environment program that was put into effect in 2003, following the adoption of the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. He reviews the prominent elements of the Diocesan policy, including background checks of clergy, paid staff and volunteers as well as the training mandated by the policy.
The program also includes an interview with Mr. Peter Campbell, co-founder of the Notre Dame Alumni Club of Eastern North Carolina. Mr. Campbell discusses the mission and goals of the Club, including its newest initiative that deals with an outreach to alumni and friends of Notre Dame who find themselves hospitalized outside of their home area. He also explains how any person can become a member of the Club. Additionally, the program features a brief interview with Mr. Jim Langford, co-editor of Legends, Traditions and Inspirations from One of America’s Most Beloved Universities, a book on Notre Dame. Mr. Langford discusses the important role that past President Father Theodore Hesburgh played in his various appointments to government committees and meetings with government officials.
Catholic Weekly can be heard Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. on WDNC 620-AM in the Triangle. It is also available each Monday on the Diocesan website and available by podcast (RSS).
