About Fr. Burke
Father Michael M. Burke, O.P. is a member of the Southern Dominican Province, New Orleans, LA. He is one of six friars living at St. Martin de Porres Priory in Raleigh, NC. Fr Michael was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 16, 1937 and spent the first eight years of his life there. After WWII his family moved to Miami, Fl where he graduated from High School. Then he returned to Michigan for college and graduated from the University of Michigan in 1959 where he majored in English Literature and pre-law. After one year of Law School at Michigan he entered the Dominican Order and was ordained on June 13, 1968. During his years of studies with the Dominicans he earned the theological degrees, S.T.B. and S.T. L. and in 1972 a BA in Liturgical Music from St. Joseph University in Rensselaer, IN.
In 1977 Father Michael returned to school for further studies in Preaching. He graduated from Andover Newton Theological School in Newton Center, MA in 1979 with a Doctorate in Ministry, majoring in Clinical Studies, (Jungian psychology and pastoral counseling). He has done sabbatical study in Church Architecture and Environment.
Father Michael's ministry has mainly been in preaching parish missions and retreats, but has included campus ministry and parish ministry. Father Michael is now in ministry at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Cary, NC.
Father Michael has been a pianist most of his life and enjoys bringing music to his ministry. He hosts a weekly TV program, 'Windows: Catholic Religion and Spirituality' for the Diocese of Raleigh. Windows includes a twenty minute presentation by Father Michael and then ten minutes for meditation while Father Michael plays the piano interpreting scenery from North Carolina that corresponds to the theme of the presentation.
His ministry has included full time preaching for fifteen years, parish ministry for seven and campus ministry for seven. Fr. Burke is now living in New Orleans at St. Anthony of Padua Priory.
