Assistant Director. Avila Retreat Center, sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Raleigh, is a non-profit, religious, ecumenical center providing a unique retreat environment. Situated on 39 acres of rolling countryside just outside of Durham, North Carolina, Avila’s 34 heated/air-conditioned guest rooms in seven cottages allow both single and double occupancy for up to 74 overnight guests with dining room facilities accommodating up to 70 guests.

Primary responsibilities for the Assistant Director include working in close collaboration with the Retreat Center Director to:

  • Initiate, plan and implement all programs at Avila
  • Oversee the operations of the property and retreat center, including site management and development, facilities management, bookings and contracts, event management, marketing, food service, and long-range planning
  • Develop annual operating and capital budgets
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere where staff can provide the best possible guest service
  • Successfully managing all staff and ensuring they are properly trained to perform their jobs to the best of their abilities

Qualified candidates will possess the following education, skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Two to three years of experience in the hospitality/hotel/conference center industry
  • Two to three years of experience managing small teams

  • Effective time management and organizational skills

Controller. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Controller manages the financial affairs and safeguards the assets of the Diocese through effective internal controls and financial policies and procedures. The Controller will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting and finance functions as well as management reporting, financial analysis (including budgeting, forecasting, and projections), general ledger, account reconciliations, AP, AR, annual external audit, payroll and cash management. The Controller manages and directs the work of five finance team members.

Parish and School Positions

Middle School Teacher. Annunciation Catholic School in Havelock, a beautiful Eastern North Carolina community, is seeking a full-time Middle School instructor with a concentration in Math, but also the flexibility to teach other core subjects. Director of Liturgy and Music. St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church in Raleigh NC is currently searching for a full-time Director of Liturgy and Music. Parish Accountant. The UNC Newman Student Center Parish is currently seeking a Parish Accountant. Elon CCM Peer Ministry Coordinator Internship. The Peer Ministry Coordinator is a recent graduate who spends a year of service on the Catholic Campus Ministry team.  He/she is hired by the Diocese of Raleigh and is accountable to the Campus Minister at Elon University.   • Employ special educational strategies and techniques during instruction to improve the development of sensory- and perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, and memory.
  • Instruct students in academic subjects using a variety of techniques such as phonetics, multi-sensory learning, and repetition to reinforce learning and to meet students' varying needs and interests.
  • Teach socially acceptable behavior, as determined by the students’ individualized education programs (IEPs) by employing techniques in an overall positive behavioral support system.
  • Modify the general education curriculum for students with disabilities based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies.
  • Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all students.
  • Meet with parents to discuss their children's progress and to determine priorities for their children and their individualized educational needs.
  • Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and other professionals to develop individualized education programs (IEPs)(Service Plans) designed to promote students' educational, physical, and social/emotional development.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports on children and activities, as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students.
  • Develop plans for effective communication, monitoring, and follow-up of students in inclusive classroom settings.
  • Provide crisis intervention, as needed, for students and those in inclusive classrooms.
  • Assist in collection of data for providing appropriate classroom interventions.
  • Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team as appropriate.
  • Assist in preparation of data for local, state, and federal reports.
  • Maintain professional competence by participating in staff development activities, curriculum development meetings, and other professional opportunities.

Parish Coordinator of Faith Formation. St. Therese Catholic Church, a parish of 500 households near Wilmington on the North Carolina coast is seeking a Coordinator of Faith Formation. Candidate will be a practicing Catholic with Formation in Catholic theology and experience pastoral ministry (MA, MDiv or equivalent).
