The Diocese of Raleigh, in partnership with Loyola University, New Orleans, offers graduate level education in religious education and pastoral studies for those seeking advanced studies in theology. Students can meet in learning groups at locations within the Diocese or pursue studies online. These Loyola Institute for Ministry courses lead to either a certificate or master's degree in religious education or pastoral studies.
In recent years a number of Catholic universities have added online programs of study. When the Loyola University graduate program is not the best option for individuals, the Office of Lay Ministry assists them in finding the right program to suit their needs. Information on various graduate programs in ministry is kept on file in the Office of Lay Ministry.
Within the Diocese a graduate level certificate program, Teología y ministerio, is offered through Loyola University, New Orleans. There are also a number of courses, with certificates offered at completion, available through the University of Notre Dame’s Camino program.
Those currently involved in volunteer ministries in our parishes may wish to enhance their training through the diocesan Doorways to Formation in the Faith courses in English or Spanish to better prepare themselves for advanced studies.
The Diocese of Raleigh is committed to "recruiting and training lay leadership for ministry among our people." In order to make that training financially possible for lay men and women and their parishes, assistance is available through the Pearl Streb Powers Formation Fund for those pursuing the above or other approved formation opportunities
