Office of Human Life and Dignity

The Office of Human Life and Dignity is primarily responsible for educating, inspiring, and inviting the participation of others to embrace the teachings of the Catholic Church on the protection and sanctity of all human life, from the moment of conception to natural death, especially with regard to the most vulnerable. The office serves as a resource for education, advocacy and evangelization, addressing Catholic social teaching and the priorities of Humanae Vitae, Evangelium Vitae and Caritas in Veritate, in proclaiming the Gospel and seeking the common good. In so doing, the office is dedicated to advocating for the dignity of all human persons, recognizing each as a unique child of the Creator.

In exercising its ministry, the Office of Human Life and Dignity develops programs and provides resources, coordination and training for social ministries and respect life ministries in parishes throughout the Diocese of Raleigh. The office collaborates with partners such as Catholic Charities and works with non-Catholic organizations on issues of mutual concern.

Initiatives serve all persons but in particular attend to the weak, the defenseless and those who are most vulnerable in society, in accord with the priorities of Catholic social teaching, to include: abortion, embryonic stem cell research, euthanasia, poverty, hunger, immigrants, the aged, those imprisoned, homelessness, the death penalty, religious freedom and the promotion of pathways to peace.
