Diocese Celebrates Milestone Wedding Anniversaries
The Diocese of Raleigh is honoring the Vocation of Marriage with the celebration of two Masses recognizing milestone anniversaries of 25, 50 and 50-plus years. The first Mass was held Sunday, April 27 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Raleigh. One hundred-ninety two couples were present, joined by members of their family. The couples accounted for more than 6,000 years of married life.
The Mass was celebrated by the Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge. In his homily, Bishop Burbidge offered “sincere congratulations and profound thanks for the witness of your lives.”
He noted that their families were “inspired, shaped and formed” by “your faithfulness to each other and to your vows.”
“Such a love is sacramental because it is a sign of the love that Jesus has for His Church: a love that is permanent, faithful and fruitful,” the Bishop added. “You are that sign for us and we are truly grateful to you!”
To better accommodate couples in the 54-county diocese, Bishop Burbidge will be celebrating two Wedding Anniversary Masses this year. The second will be at Saint Paul Church in New Bern, Sunday, May 4 at 2:00 PM.
