Bishop Burbidge Announces Diocesan Pilgrimage to National Shrine
The Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge has announced a Diocesan Pilgrimage to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on Saturday, April 2, 2011.
In a letter to the faithful of the Diocese of Raleigh, Bishop Burbidge noted how the Diocese was placed under the patronage of our Holy Mother by Bishop Vincent S. Waters, third Bishop of the Diocese. “The upcoming Pilgrimage will be a witness to our faith as we gather around the Shrine of Our Blessed Lady and pray together for our Diocese, for our nation and for peace,” Bishop Burbidge wrote.
This will be the second pilgrimage led by Bishop Burbidge to the National Shrine, with the first one taken in 2008. It attracted more than 1,500 faithful, who praised the moving and inspirational shared experience of the day. “Once again,” Bishop Burbidge said, “I envision people of all ages, from various cultures, walks of life, Parish and Diocesan organizations worshiping Christ and honoring His Blessed Mother.”
Father Justin Kerber, C.P., V.F. and Father John McGee, O.S.F.S. are serving as co-chairs, assisted by Sr. Rose Marie Adams, I.H.M. and Ms. Holly Stringer.
The Diocese is coordinating travel plans and hotel arrangements with departure set for Friday, April 1, with buses leaving from various parishes throughout the Diocese. Bishop Burbidge’s letter announcing the pilgrimage, trip details, pilgrimage schedule and registration is available on the Web site, accessed through the Diocesan Pilgrimage button on the left side of the home page.
