The Ninth Annual Ignited By Truth Catholic Conference will take place February 25-26, 2011, at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds in Raleigh. The mission of the conference is: Bringing to light the truth of the teachings of the Catholic Church and igniting in our hearts a love for our Faith. The program begins with a free Friday evening workshop devoted to people considering the Catholic Church. Saturday is a full day of talks, addressing the mission in all areas of life: Faith in Action, Conversion, Scripture, Prayer, Theology, the Sacraments, Philosophy, Holiness, Apologetics, Vocations, Science, the Sanctity of Life, and Evangelization.
“Storming Heaven for Ignited By Truth,” the fundraising campaign, is currently underway. “Many people from all over the Diocese of Raleigh and beyond are praying, sacrificing, and making donations to make the next conference possible,” said Director, Christine Sulzen. On Saturday, November 6, a hundred supporters participated in the 2nd Annual Walk-a-Thon at Fred G. Bond Metro Park in Cary. “We have great hope to be able to continue to keep the ticket price very low so that as many people as possible will be able to attend,” Ms. Sulzen said.
New for IBT 2011 includes live music Friday night and a special preview of the new movie, “Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen: Servant of All.” The conference will feature several sought-after speakers and presenters, and The Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge will celebrate the closing Mass. The speakers for the Conference this year include:
Matthew Kelly, Author of “Rediscovering Catholicism” and several other books. Born in Sydney, Australia, Matthew devotes his life to spiritual ministry, having travelled in more than 50 countries and spoken to over three million people. He invites listeners to become the-best-version-of-themselves: energized, engaged, faith-filled, spiritual, and aware of Catholicism’s powerful relevance.
Dr. Brant Pitre, Professor of Sacred Scripture at Notre Dame Seminary in Louisiana. Having studied under Dr. Scott Hahn and specializing in the study of Ancient Judaism and the New Testament, he is currently publishing his second book entitled, “Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist.” Dr. Pitre has become the highlight of Steubenville conferences and a sought-after speaker across the U.S.
Jeremy Rivera, Director of Communications for FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students), an evangelization effort that sends teams of young, trained missionaries to over 50 college campuses across the U.S. to reach students with the Gospel. A Toastmasters International award-winning speaker with a Master’s degree in Biblical Studies, Jeremy shares the powerful witness of his own experiences, motivating Catholics to follow God calling them to evangelize the Faith.
Dr. Reinhard Huetter, Professor of Christian Theology at Duke Divinity School. Born in Bavaria, Germany, Dr. Huetter is a former Lutheran who converted to the Catholic Church in 2004. On fire for the Faith, he shares the intricacies of Catholicism through his writing and teaching. In his most recent work, he explores the human being created in the image of God: nature and grace, divine and human freedom, faith and reason, theology and metaphysics.
Dr. Patrick Yeung & Dr. Patrick O’Connell, Duke University Medicine. With Yeung specializing in Women’s Fertility and O’Connell in Catholic Bioethics, these doctors have a passion for educating others about current issues and technology in light of Catholic Church teachings.
