NC Catholic Bishops Send Letter to UNC President Bowles

The Catholic Bishops of North Carolina sent a letter to University of North Carolina President Erskine Bowles and the UNC Board of Governors stating their concern regarding the UNC health care plan that requires pro-life students, enrolled in the system’s insurance program, to underwrite abortions.

Bishop Michael F. Burbidge of Raleigh and Bishop Peter J. Jugis of Charlotte noted that while they support the UNC’s system to provide health insurance for students, the inclusion of abortion is a ”moral injustice.”
