Pope Benedict XVI's Year for Priests Closing Homily
At a closing Mass in St. Peter’s Square on June 11, Pope Benedict XVI brought the Year for Priests celebration to an end. Concelebrating Mass with an estimated 15,000 priests, including 80 cardinals, the Holy Father’s homily addressed a range of topics.
Vatican officials said that the number of priests vesting for Mass and reciting together the key words of the Eucharistic prayer with their hands extended toward the altar marked the liturgy as the largest concelebration ever held at the Vatican.
