Hundreds of Thousands Greet Pope Benedict at Fatima

larger font

More than 500,000 people turned out to welcome Pope Benedict XVI on his visit to the holy shrine of Fatima, May 13.  The Holy Father celebrated Mass at the shrine where three shepherd children had a vision of the Virgin Mary in 1917.  The Pope is on a four day trip to Portugal.

Catholic News Service has several reports on talks and homilies given by the Holy Father at Masses and events he is attending. They are available on the Diocesan Web site by clicking on the CNS Video button on the right side of the home page.  Among other video stories is a report on how the Vatican works with governments on the moral issues facing our world and individual countries. The story explains courses the Vatican offers diplomats and training it holds for its own diplomatic corps. Also features is a story on the Swiss Guard, the oldest active army in the world and a recent induction ceremony of its newest members.
