Knights of Columbus Say "Thank You" to Priests
On May 4, 72 priests serving in the Diocese of Raleigh attended an Appreciation Reception and Dinner sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. Held at the North Raleigh Hilton, the event represented the Knights’ desire to thank and encourage priests, especially in the Year for Priests. In a brief address to those in attendance, Knights of Columbus State Deputy David Jones said, “We need our priests because we need the Eucharist. The Eucharist makes us a Church, and our priests make the Eucharist possible.”
The Knights presented special plaques of appreciation to Reverend Msgr. David D. Brockman, Vicar General of the Diocese, and to the Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge, Bishop of Raleigh. In his remarks following dinner, Bishop Burbidge expressed his gratitude to the Knights for their ongoing support of the Priesthood. Then, addressing the priests in attendance, the Bishop said, “Dear brother priests, Our Lord uses these wonderful people to remind you of how precious you are to Him, and how you give such wonderful service to Him every day.
“Allow the Lord to speak to your hearts,” the Bishop continued, “as He says, ‘Thank you” for being a priest, a servant and an instrument of His love to so many people.”
