St. Francis Feast Marks Blessing of the Animals
The Franciscan School was the scene Saturday, October 3, for the annual Blessing of the Animals held by the Franciscan Friars of the Holy Name Province. Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge joined Father Mark Reamer, Father William McConville, Father Julian Jagudilla and Father David McBriar in the blessing.
Parishioners were invited to bring their pets to the celebration and turned out with dogs of all sizes, cats, hamsters, and other pets including one snake. Several children brought their stuffed animals.
The custom, conducted on or near the feast day of Saint Francis, is founded on the Saint’s love for all creatures.
