Diocese to Sponsor Parish Respect Life Conference

A Parish Respect Life Conference, sponsored by the Diocesan Office of Respect Life, Justice and Peace, will be held Saturday, August 22 at Saint Mary, Mother of the Church in Garner.

The 9:30-2:30 seminar is primarily for parish respect life leaders and committee members and parishioners interested in respect life and social ministry activities.

Father Louis Cannino, OFM, Executive Director of Saint Francis Prayer Center in Stoneville, NC, will provide the keynote. His topic will be “The Sacredness of Life in the Spirit of Saint Francis of Assisi.”

Mr. Jim Hynes, formation director at Saint Thomas More Church in Chapel Hill, will focus on Dignitas Personae (The Dignity of the Person) and include Pope Benedict XVI’s recent encyclical Caritas in Veritate (Charity in Truth). The session will provide information and guidance on the Vatican’s teaching on ethical issues and biomedical research.

Ms. Melissa DuCharme, with the Diocesan Office of Respect Life, Justice and Peace, will facilitate a session on “Best Practices for Respect Life Committees.” It will offer strategies to develop and annual plan, recruit and maintain volunteers and develp a balanced respect life ministry at your parish. Ministry ideas will be shared.
