Hispanic Youth Gather to Worship
Nearly 600 Hispanic youth and their leaders gathered at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh on Saturday, June 20, for the 4th annual Encuentro Juvenil. The one-day retreat combined music, workshops, friendly competition and worship to evangelize Spanish speaking youth. A high point was a presentation by renowned Catholic speaker and musician Marcos Chau. Attendance this year was the highest ever, and included youth from North Carolina and other states who attended in groups from their parishes.
The retreat closed with a Vigil Mass celebrated in Spanish by the Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge, Bishop of Raleigh. Father Carlos Arce, Diocesan Vicar for Hispanics, was the concelebrant and homilist.
