Bishop Burbidge Announces Pastoral Appointments

Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge, Bishop of Raleigh, announces the following priest assignments.

Effective May 22, 2009

Reverend J. William Long, Administrator of Saint Charles Borromeo Parish in Ahoskie, is appointed Pastor of Saint Charles Borromeo Parish in Ahoskie.

Effective June 7, 2009

Reverend Michael P. Cassabon, on assignment from the Diocese of Charleston, is appointed Parochial Vicar at Saint Patrick Parish in Fayetteville.

Effective June 30, 2009

Reverend R. Bruce Bavinger, S.J., Parochial Vicar for Hispanic Ministry at Saint Therese Parish in Wilson and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Rocky Mount, is additionally appointed Parochial Vicar for Hispanic Ministry at Saint John the Baptist Parish in Roanoke Rapids.

Reverend Paul W. Brant, S.J., Priestly Minister to Saint Mary Parish in Goldsboro and Holy Trinity Parish in Williamston, is temporarily appointed Priestly Minister to the Catholic Community of Bertie County in Winsdor, Holy Trinity Parish in Williamston and Saint Joan of Arc Parish in Plymouth.

Reverend Michael A. Butler, Pastor of Saint John the Baptist Parish in Roanoke Rapids, is appointed Pastor of Saint Gabriel Parish in Greenville.

Reverend Stephen V. Carlson, Pastor of Saint Stephen the First Martyr Parish in Sanford, is appointed Pastor of Saint Mark Parish in Wilmington.

Reverend Thomas R. Davis, Pastor of Infant of Prague Parish in Jacksonville, is granted temporary medical leave.

Reverend Anthony V. DeCandia, Parochial Vicar of Saint Patrick Parish in Fayetteville, is appointed Parochial Vicar of Infant of Prague Parish in Jacksonville.

Reverend James G. Dull, Parochial Vicar of Saint Bernadette Parish in Fuquay-Varina, is appointed Parochial Vicar of Saint Catherine of Siena Parish in Wake Forest.

Reverend John L. Gillespie, Parochial Vicar of Infant of Prague Parish in Jacksonville, is appointed Pastor of Saint Francis de Sales Parish in Lumberton.

Reverend Francisco Javier Garcia Gonzalez, Parochial Vicar of Holy Family Parish in Elizabeth City, is appointed Parochial Vicar of St. Bernadette Parish in Fuquay-Varina and to Diocesan Hispanic Ministry.

Reverend John-Alex Gonzalez, Campus Minister and Chaplain at the Doggett Center for Catholic Campus Ministry at North Carolina State University, is additionally appointed Parochial Vicar for Hispanic Ministry at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Raleigh.

Reverend Monsignor Gerald L. Lewis, Diocesan Archivist, is appointed Administrator of Saint Paul Parish in New Bern. Msgr. Lewis will continue to serve as Diocesan Archivist.

Reverend Scott E. McCue, Assistant Principal for Spiritual Life at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh, is additionally appointed as Priestly Minister to Our Lady of the Rosary Parish in Louisburg.

Reverend Daniel D. Oschwald, Pastor, Saint Mark Parish, Wilmington is appointed Rector of Sacred Heart Cathedral, Raleigh.

Very Reverend Ernest J. Ruede, V.F., Pastor of Saint Paul Parish in New Bern, is appointed Pastor of Infant of Prague Parish in Jacksonville. Fr. Ruede will continue to serve as Dean of the New Bern Deanery.

Reverend Monsignor Girard M. Sherba, Rector, Sacred Heart Cathedral, Raleigh, Judicial Vicar, Chancellor and the Bishop’s Delegate to Religious is appointed to full-time responsibilities as Judicial Vicar, Chancellor, Bishop’s Delegate to Religious and Priestly Minister to Saint Bernadette Parish in Butner. Reverend Monsignor Girard M. Sherba will be in residence at the home of the Most Reverend F. Joseph Gossman, Bishop Emeritus of Raleigh.

Reverend Robert P. Staley, in residence at Saint Bernadette Parish in Fuquay-Varina, is appointed Parochial Vicar of Saint Bernadette Parish in Fuquay-Varina.

Very Reverend Pius Wekesa, Parochial Vicar of Sacred Heart Cathedral in Raleigh and Adjutant Vicar for African Ancestry and Evangelization Ministry, is appointed Administrator of Saint John the Baptist Parish in Roanoke Rapids. Fr. Wekesa will continue to serve as Adjutant Vicar for African Ancestry and Evangelization Ministry.

Reverend Monsignor Stephen C. Worsley, Vice President of Saint Joseph Hospital in Nashua, NH, is appointed Pastor of Saint Stephen the First Martyr Parish in Sanford.
