NC Bishops Request Faithful to Contact Federal Lawmakers

larger font

The Catholic Bishops of North Carolina are requesting the faithful in their Dioceses to contact Senator Richard Burr, Senator Kay Hagan and their U.S. House of Representative to support the addition of conscience protections rights for health care in pending “must-pass” legislation, which will provide ongoing funding for the federal government.

Bishop Michael F. Burbidge of Raleigh and Bishop Peter J. Jugis of Charlotte have made the request to subscribers of Catholic Voice NC, a non-partisan initiative of both Dioceses that advocates on behalf of Catholic teaching on issues before the North Carolina General Assembly and Congress.

The action by the Bishops renews their efforts and the call by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops to restore conscience rights that were basically lost by the Obama Administration’s Health and Human Resources Mandate following passage of the Affordable Care Act. A recent proposal by the Administration aimed at addressing the US bishops’ concern has fallen short. Hence, the call by Bishop Burbidge and Bishop Jugis to ask the Catholic faithful in North Carolina to call on our Congressional delegation to restore and protect conscience protection in federal law.

Contact information for U.S. Senate and House members is available at Catholic Voice NC website.
