The Chair of the USCCB Subcommittee on the Church in Central and Eastern Europe has sent a letter of thanks to Bishop Michael F. Burbidge for the Diocesan response to the annual Collection to aid the Church in Central and Eastern Europe. Diocesan faithful contributed $78,657.90 to the 2012 Collection.

Bishop Blasé J. Cupich of Spokane wrote that the funds will assist many of the world’s poorest countries still struggling to rise above the paralyzing legacy of communism while being further crippled by the global economic crisis.

The annual Collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe is taken up on Ash Wednesday.

In 2012, Diocesan faithful contributed a total of more than $1 million to the 12 monthly national collections and to Hurricane Sandy relief.
