Singer-songwriter Michael John Poirier will perform a benefit for Birthchoice on Saturday, November 3, 2012, at 7 p.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic School in Apex.
Mr. Poirier has released eight CDs, including “Miracle Blossom,” “Ocean of Mercy” and “Holy Hour.” His newest CD, “The Voice of a Child,” features Advent and Christmas music by young vocalists. He recently wrote a song titled “Saving Liberty” in defense of religious freedom.
A soloist who plays guitar, Mr. Poirier travels with his wife, Mary, and their three children – Joseph, 16, John Paul, 12, and Therese, 6. The family has journeyed throughout the United States and abroad to Canada, Germany, France and Italy. They’ve visited prisons, teen centers, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, military bases and churches.
“I always play it as I go … I’m not a formal person,” said Mr. Poirier, commenting on the fact that he doesn’t use a set list of music. “It’s not always the same. It depends on the group of people who gather. If they have a good sense of humor, we can have a lot of laughter. Otherwise, it’s more of a retreat.”
Mr. Poirier previously performed for preschool children at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic School, as well as for parishioners during Masses at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Cary.
Tickets aren’t required, but attendees are invited to make contributions to Birthchoice of Wake County, an organization that provides free services, such as pregnancy tests, limited ultrasounds and other resources, to women in the Raleigh area.
