The annual Diocesan Catholic Convocation will be held Saturday, October 20, 2012, at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Cary. This year’s gathering will mark the official start of the Year of Faith in the Diocese of Raleigh.

The Convocation will begin with the celebration of Mass at 9:15 a.m., with the Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge Principal Celebrant and Homilist. Fr. Peter Cameron, O.P., will be the keynote speaker.

Many of the approximately 50 workshops offered throughout the day will provide the faithful with opportunities to enrich their faith lives during this special year. The Year of Faith was decreed by Pope Benedict XVI. In his letter titled, Porta Fidei (“door of faith”), the Holy Father noted the Year will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the opening of Vatican II and the 20th anniversary of the revised Catechism of the Catholic Church. In his decree, Pope Benedict expressed his hope and desire that the faithful will use the year to renew themselves in their faith and rediscover the joy that the Catholic faith offers.

The special year, celebrated by the Church Universal, will conclude November 24, 2013, the Feast of Christ the King.

The 2012 Convocation will feature a range of workshops designed to meet the spiritual needs of all Catholics. Several other workshops are:

Fostering Faith in Adolescents: A Method to the Madness
Reading the Bible: Why and How
Conscience Formation
Father Thomas F. Price: Model for the New Evangelization
Marriage Encounter: Enriching Marriage Today
Contagious Spirituality: “All for Jesus”

While the deadline for online registration has passed, interested individuals can register at the door. The Convocation brochure (PDF), listing the day’s events, is available online.
