On September 27, 2012, the Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge joined pro-life witnesses praying the Rosary to begin the semi-annual 40 Days for Life vigil in the Triangle. Thursday’s prayer was held in front of "A Woman's Choice of Raleigh," 3305 Drake Circle, in Raleigh.
Forty Days for Life is an international ecumenical effort, whose members and partners participate in peaceful witness outside abortion clinics. The components of the Vigil are prayer and fasting, peaceful vigil and community outreach during the 40 days. Participants pray that, with God's help, abortion will end in Raleigh and throughout America.
Further information, including signing up for a specific prayer time during the 40 days, is available at www.40daysforlife.com/raleigh. There you will also find daily prayer intentions and pregnancy resources.
An important pro-life educational event during the current 40-day period will occur on October 7th at 4 p.m. at the Fallon Center of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2718 Overbrook Drive, Raleigh, NC 27608. Pro-life supporters of all faiths are invited to hear Dr. Johnny Hunter, a nationally recognized Evangelical Pro-Life Minister and Director of the Life Education and Resource Network (L.E.A.R.N.), with his wife, Patricia, a recording artist. They will share the pro-life experiences they have gathered from around the country.
Mrs. Jacqueline Bonk, Director of the Diocesan Office of Pro-Life, noted, “The vigil raises local awareness that these clinics are in the business of performing abortions. It’s wonderful that so many Catholic faithful, especially so many young people, are praying the Rosary for an end to abortion and the healing of those who have participated in abortion.”
