Registration is now available for the 2012 Catholic Convocation, sponsored by the Diocese of Raleigh, will be held Saturday, October 20, 2012, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Cary. The day-long event will begin with Mass celebrated by the Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge.
This year’s gathering will take on added significance as it will begin the celebration of the “Year of Faith” in the Diocese. Pope Benedict XVI has decreed a “Year of Faith” for the universal Church to assist the Catholic faithful in rediscovering “the journey of faith so as to shed every clear light on the joy and renewed enthusiasm of the encounter with Christ.”
The 2012 Catholic Convocation will abide by the Holy Father’s desire for the Year of celebrating the joy of being Catholic. Over 50 workshops will be offered throughout the day, featuring speakers who will help form and deepen our knowledge of the faith.
The keynote address will be delivered by Reverend Peter John Cameron, OP, editor of Magnificat magazine.
Convocation sessions include:
What’s New About the New Evangelization
Father Thomas Frederick Price: Model for the New Evangelization
Adult Faith Formation in the Year of Faith
Marriage Encounter: Enriching Marriage Today
We Are All Called to Holiness
Contagious Spirituality: “All for Jesus”
In addition, there will be a track for Parish Social Ministry, which will include sessions on Church teaching on Immigration and welcoming the stranger and how a parish can be equipped to respond to help others in the wake of a disaster.
There will also be a track for parish music ministers, providing Church musicians an opportunity to renew their understanding of Sing to the Lord, the document which guides music for Catholic worship.
