The Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge has received a letter of gratitude from the President of Catholic Relief Services, the international humanitarian and development agency of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Dr. Carolyn Woo thanked the Bishop and the people of the Diocese of Raleigh “for heeding the call to become personally engaged in addressing the needs of the poorest of the poor around the world.”

Dr. Woo expressed appreciation for the donation of $278,662.99 given last year for relief efforts in the wake of the catastrophic and tsunami that ravaged the northeastern part of the country on March 11, 2011. CRS worked closely with its partner, Caritas Japan, in helping people recover from the emergency and stood with them in the difficult months that followed.

“On behalf of all of us at CRS and those who were touched by your compassionate generosity,” Dr. Woo said, “I am grateful for your steadfast support of our mission and for the faithful in the Diocese of Raleigh who live out their faith in solidarity with the poor and marginalized people overseas.”
