Diocese Offers Special Needs Catechesis Workshop

larger font

The Diocesan Department of Catholic Formation and Evangelization is offering a workshop for catechists who instruct children with special needs. The five-hour session is titled Everyone is Called to God’s Table, Even the Ones Who Can’t Sit Still.

Adults responsible for educating or catechizing children with Attention Deficit Disorder and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), including Asperger’s Syndrome, are often working with erroneous information about these conditions. This can lead to negative judgments of these children and their families, posing difficulties in social interactions during school or religious education sessions.

Dr. Wojtaszek-Healy, Ph.D., will address these myths and give insights to help the catechist better understand these conditions and improve their ability to evangelize these children and their families.

The workshop is May 21, 2012, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM at St. Michael the Archangel Gallery Center, 830 High House Road, Cary, NC. Door prizes and complimentary lunch will be provided.

Pre-registration is required, no fee to attend. To register contact Mary DiSano at 919-821-9710 or mary.disano@raldioc.org by May 15, 2012.
