Bishop Burbidge Celebrates Palm Sunday Mass

larger font

The Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge began Holy Week with the celebration of Palm (Passion) Sunday Mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Raleigh.

Prior to the celebration of Mass, the faithful gathered with Bishop Burbidge in the Cathedral courtyard for the blessing of the palms and then took part in a procession into the church, representing the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem just days before his crucifixion.

In his homily, Bishop Burbidge noted that Holy Week provides us with an invitation to “pass over” from our old way of living to a new life of grace. “It is about the 'passing over' of Jesus from suffering to glory; from death to life; and from Good Friday to Easter.”
