Bishop Burbidge's Holy Week Schedule

Holy Week is marked by special liturgical services in Catholic churches throughout the world. In the Diocese of Raleigh, Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge will begin Holy Week with the celebration of Palm Sunday Mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Raleigh at 10:30 AM.

On Tuesday, April 3, Bishop Burbidge will be celebrant and homilist at the annual Chrism Mass, which will be held at Saint Andrew Catholic Church in Apex at 2:00 p.m. Priests serving in the Diocese will be present, joined by representatives from the 96 parishes and mission churches in the Diocese. During the Mass, Bishop Burbidge will bless the Holy Oils and Sacred Chrism, which will be used by parishes in the coming year for the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Anointing of the Sick. During the Mass, the Bishop and priests will renew their commitment to priestly service.

Holy Thursday begins the triduum sacrum (Triduum), marking the sacred days of Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday, celebrated in Catholic churches worldwide. On Holy Thursday, Bishop Burbidge will celebrate the Mass of the Lord’s Supper at Sacred Heart Cathedral at 7:00 p.m.

On Good Friday, at 3:00 PM, the Bishop will preside at the Veneration of the Cross and Passion service at Sacred Heart Cathedral.  Earlier in the day, he will take part in the Way of the Cross at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Raleigh beginning at noon.

Bishop Burbidge will be celebrant and homilist at the Easter Vigil Mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral on Holy Saturday at 8:00 p.m. He will also be celebrant and homilist at for the 10:30 a.m. Easter Sunday Mass at the Cathedral.
