Catholic Community in Bertie County Featured in Glenmary Magazine
The Diocese of Raleigh comprises the 54 easternmost counties of North Carolina. It consists of 96 parish and mission churches with a Catholic population of more than 400,000 people. It may be of a surprise to some that there are several counties in the Diocese without a Catholic Church or mission.
Up until 2004, Bertie County was in that group. That changed when the Diocese invited the Glenmary Missioners to establish a community in the county. Today, eight years later, the small group of Glenmary Missioners is making a difference in the economically challenged rural area. In addition to ministering to the small group of Catholics in and around Windsor, they are providing important outreach to those in need.
The Catholic Community of Bertie County is featured in this month’s edition of the Glenmary Challenge, the Religious Order’s quarterly magazine.
