NC Bishops Announce Support and Catechesis for Marriage Amendment
In less than four months, voters in North Carolina will have the opportunity to protect traditional marriage through an amendment to the state Constitution. The Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge, Bishop of Raleigh, and the Most Reverend Peter J. Jugis, Bishop of Charlotte, announced their support of the Marriage Amendment in a letter to the faithful of both Dioceses dated January 29, 2012.
Much is being spoken and written about the proposed amendment, pro and con, resulting in confusion among the voters. In print and video formats, the bishops will provide the faithful in both dioceses with information on Church teaching regarding the sacrament of Marriage, clearly showing that marriage is a relationship created by God, designed for one man and one woman, based on natural law which cannot be reformed. The bishops will each provide two videos over the next three months. The first by Bishop Jugis is now available on the Catholic Voice NC website.
