The Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge, Bishop of Raleigh, and the Most Reverend Peter J. Jugis, Bishop of Charlotte, are asking Catholics in North Carolina to contact their state representatives, requesting that they vote in support of NC House Bill 854, “Abortion – A Woman’s Right to Know Act.” A vote on the proposed bill could take place as early as this Wednesday.

Last week, Msgr. David D. Brockman, Vicar General of the Diocese of Raleigh, appeared before the House Judiciary B Committee on behalf of Bishop Burbidge, speaking in favor of the bill. Msgr. Brockman noted several important aspects of the bill which would provide important information to a pregnant woman considering abortion. One of the key elements of the bill would be to provide the woman with an opportunity for an ultrasound which would provide an image of the child within her.

Msgr. Brockman told the committee members HB 854 is a bill that is definitely pro-life and pro-woman.
