Gratitude Expressed for Diocesan Witness and Generosity
Letters of gratitude have been received by the Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge to share with the faithful in the Diocese of Raleigh for their generous donations to three national collections.
The Most Reverend Kevin D. Farrell, Chairman of the United States Bishops' Committee on National Collections thanked Bishop Burbidge for the $111,668.26 contribution to support the work of Catholic Relief Services. The international humanitarian and development agency of the US Bishops will use the donations to help fund programs that deal with famine, extreme poverty, natural disasters, human trafficking, unaccompanied minors and immigrants trying to reunite with family members.
The Most Reverend Michael W. Warfel, Chairman of the United States Bishops' Subcommittee on Catholic Home Missions expressed his deepest appreciation for the 2010 diocesan contribution of $85,591.87 to assist dioceses unable to fund basic and essential pastoral works such as catechesis, seminary formation and lay leadership training. The 2011 collection is scheduled for this weekend in many parishes.
A third letter of gratitude was received from the US Bishops Catholic Campaign for Human Development for the diocesan donation of $70,901.12.
Bishop Farrell’s letter noted that the faithful in the Diocese of Raleigh “demonstrate genuine love and compassion for all who are helped by the collection -- those who are truly Jesus in disguise.”
