Gala Scheduled to Benefit Catholic Charities
The Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge and the Catholic Charities Board of Directors announce a special celebration to pay tribute to the good works of Catholic Charities and its seven regional offices. The gala, Celebrate God’s Gifts, will be held at Cardinal Gibbons High School at 6:00 p.m., April 30, 2011.
The event will feature a keynote by Reverend Larry Snyder, President of Catholic Charities USA, a national association representing more than 160 local agencies throughout the United States. Catholic Charities USA is the US Bishops' national organization that coordinates the Church’s response to major disasters in the US and advocates on behalf of the poor and disadvantaged. In 2009, Catholic Charities USA put forth a plan to work at reducing poverty in the United States by 50 percent by 2020.
“We’re honored to join Bishop Burbidge in celebrating the work of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Raleigh at our first annual gala,” said John Keller, Diocesan Catholic Charities Board Chair. “The Board and staff are excited to welcome Father Larry Snyder to our Diocese.”
The evening gala will include a special tribute to retired Bishop F. Joseph Gossman.
Proceeds from the evening will benefit Catholic Charities programs serving the poor in eastern North Carolina. Last year, Catholic Charities in the Diocese touched the lives of more than 54,000 individuals through counseling, family support, and other services to aid the most vulnerable in our community. Catholic Charities serves the poor without regard to faith tradition.
Tickets for the event are $50 and sponsorships are still available. To purchase tickets or to learn more about sponsorship, you are asked to contact Catholic Charities Development Director Patricia Reid at firstname.lastname@example.org or (919) 821-8146; or visit the Catholic Charities web page.
