Rite of Election Ceremonies Being Held in Diocese
The Rite of Election will be celebrated Sunday, March 13, 2011, at two parishes in the Diocese of Raleigh. The Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge will celebrate the Rite of Election and the Call to Continuing Conversion in a 3:00 p.m. ceremony at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Apex. Msgr. David D. Brockman, Vicar General of the Diocese, will celebrate the ceremony at St. Paul Catholic Church in New Bern at 3:00 p.m.
The Apex ceremony will be for Candidates and Catechumens/Elect in the Raleigh and Piedmont Deaneries. The New Bern ceremony will be for individuals in the New Bern and Cape Fear Deaneries. Last week, Bishop Burbidge and Msgr. Brockman celebrated Rite ceremonies in Fayetteville and Greenville for Candidates and Catechumens in Fayetteville, Newton Grove, Tar River and Albemarle Deaneries.
The Rite of Election is a celebration of the Diocesan Church. During the Rite, Candidates and Catechumens who are answering God’s call have that call affirmed by the Church. They will enter into Full Communion with the Church in their respective parishes during the Easter Vigil, with the Catechumens receiving the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist.
Bishop Burbidge’s Rite of Initiation homily will be posted on the Diocesan website Monday, March 14.
