The Ninth Annual Ignited By Truth Catholic Conference will be held, February 25-26, 2011, at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds in Raleigh. Among the featured speakers are well-known author-evangelist Matthew Kelly and Dr. Brant Pitre, Professor of Sacred Scripture at Notre Dame Seminary in Louisiana.

Mr. Kelly’s books have been a mainstay on the Catholic Book Publishers Best Sellers list for more than five years, with one of his best known works, Rediscovering Catholicism.  He has devoted his life to spiritual ministry, having travelled to more than 50 countries and spoken to over three million people. He invites listeners to become the best version of themselves: energized, engaged, faith-filled, spiritual and aware of Catholicism’s powerful relevance.

Dr. Pitre studied under Dr. Scott Hahn, specializing in the study of Ancient Judaism and the New Testament. He is currently publishing his second book, Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist.

Other speakers are:

  • Jeremy Rivera, Director of Communications for FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students), an evangelization effort that sends teams of young, trained missionaries to over 50 college campuses across the U.S. to reach students with the Gospel. A Toastmasters International award-winning speaker with a Master’s degree in Biblical Studies, Jeremy shares the powerful witness of his own experiences, motivating Catholics to follow God and calling them to evangelize the Faith.
  • Dr. Reinhard Huetter, Professor of Christian Theology at Duke Divinity School. Born in Bavaria, Germany, Dr. Huetter is a former Lutheran who converted to the Catholic Church in 2004. He studies the intricacies of Catholicism with others. In his most recent work, he explores the human being created in the image of God: nature and grace, divine and human freedom, faith and reason, theology and metaphysics.
  • Dr. Patrick Yeung & Dr. Patrick O’Connell, Duke University Medicine. With Yeung specializing in Women’s Fertility and O’Connell in Catholic Bioethics, these doctors have a passion for educating others about current issues and technology in light of Catholic Church teachings.
  • Deby Schlapprizzri, National Radio host of Splendor of You ®. Deby addresses various topics on faith and morals in contemporary living. A lawyer,  pro-life advocate and motivational speaker, she will present a talk entitled The Splendor of You, which will address realizing human dignity as children of God and living to the unique potential inscribed by Him within.
  • Katie O’Donnell, FOCUS missionary at Auburn University. After graduating from St. Thomas More Academy in Raleigh and then Hillsdale College in Michigan, O’Donnell is engaging students with the Gospel and New Evangelization. She will present Testimony of Faith at the Saturday student breakout sessions.

The eight-member St. Peter’s Youth Band from St. Peter Catholic Church in Greenville, NC will perform Friday evening, and Kim Kalman, a musician and recording artist from Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Kitty Hawk and Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Nags Head will provide Praise & Worship Music throughout the day on Saturday.

The mission of the Ignited by Truth Conference is to: Bring to Light the truth of the teachings of the Catholic Church and igniting in our hearts a love for our Faith. The program begins with a free Friday evening workshop devoted to people considering the Catholic Church. Saturday is a full day of talks, addressing the mission in all areas of life: Faith in Action, Conversion, Scripture, Prayer, Theology, the Sacraments, Philosophy, Holiness, Apologetics, Vocations, Science, the Sanctity of Life, and Evangelization.

The Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge will celebrate the closing Mass on Saturday at 5:00 PM.

There is an early registration discount through February 6: $25/adult for groups of 5 or more; $20/student; and $35 individual adults. Registration and more information are available on the web site: http://ignitedbytruth.com/.
