The Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge received letters of gratitude from coordinators of two of the Catholic Church’s twelve national collections.

Sister Janice Bader, CPPS, Executive Director of the National Religious Retirement Office thanked the Bishop for the Diocese’s contribution of $207,013.03 The collection in December helps provide for the retirement needs of a growing, aging group of religious priests, brothers and sisters. At present, there are over 37,000 religious seventy years of age and older. That number is expected to increase significantly in the next ten years.

Bishop Burbidge also received a letter of appreciation from the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) for the $92,217.72 donated by the Diocesan faithful in the most recent annual collection in November. CCHD uses the collection to provide grants to local community-based groups who create jobs, improve education and strengthen neighborhoods. The amount submitted to the CCHD national office represents seventy-five percent of the Diocesan collection. The remaining twenty-five percent remains with the Diocese to fund anti-poverty projects on the local level. The grants are awarded each year in October.

A list of the 12 annual collections, their mission and purpose, and information on the grants they provide is available on the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops web site.
