Special collections support essential ministries around the world

Special collections throughout the year support essential ministries throughout the world.

In January 2016, dioceses throughout the United States were asked to take up a Calamities Special Collection for severe storms that had impacted the South and Midwest regions.

The funds collected in this one-time special appeal were used to support the relief efforts of Catholic Charities USA, the official domestic relief agency of the U.S. Catholic Church. The funds provided for emergency needs like water, food, shelter and medical care.

The faithful of the Diocese of Raleigh generously gave $43,331.16 to the relief effort.

Traditionally on Good Friday, a collection is taken for fellow Christians in the Holy Land called the Pontifical Good Friday Collection. This year, the Diocese donated $77,617.20 for the effort. The money is used to keep places of worship and prayer living presences in the Holy Land.

There are five more national collection dates left in 2016:

The Catholic University of America - September 4/11, 2016

World Mission Sunday - October 23, 2016

Catholic Campaign for Human Development - November 20, 2016

Retirement Fund for Religious - December 11, 2016

Thank you for your continued generosity.
