Seminarians graduate from St. Charles Seminary

On May 18, Archbishop Charles J. Chaput presided over the graduation ceremony at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Bishop Timothy Senior, rector, and Bishop John O. Barres (Diocese of Allentown), member of the Board of Trustees, assisted in the ceremony.

“I was very happy for the first achievement in responding to the Lord’s call,” graduate, Jairo Maldonado said. “I’m very grateful for the support of the diocese, as well as my mom’s presence at graduation.”

The men received the following degrees and awards:

College Graduation:

  • Jairo Maldonado received his Bachelors in Arts, Magna Cum Laude

Theology: 

  • Edisson de Jesus Urrego: Masters in Divinity, Magna Cum Laude
  • James Magee, III: Masters in Divinity, Cum Laude
  • John A. Kane: Masters in Arts, Magna Cum Laude

Proficiency Letter for Pastoral Spanish: 

  • Deacon Philip Johnson

In addition, Deacon Magee also received the Monsignor Joseph Quigley Award for Achievements in Academics, Activities and Leadership.

“I feel it is a bittersweet time,” Deacon Kane said. “But also there is something exciting about breaking new ground.”

Deacon John Kane and Deacon Michael Schuetz (who graduated from the Pontifical North America College in Rome) will be ordained in the Diocese of Raleigh on Saturday, June 4. The ordination, presided by Bishop Michael F. Burbidge, will be held at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Wake Forest at 10 a.m. All are invited to attend.
