Prayer vigil of mercy and compassion at Immaculate Conception in Durham

The Social Justice Committee of Immaculate Conception Parish, Durham, is hosting a prayer vigil for victims of violence, the perpetrators, and for families and loved ones who have suffered losses, and especially for peace.

The Vigil of Mercy and Compassion will be held at 6:00 p.m. on July 22, the last day of the Novena for Peace organized by the Knights of Columbus. The Novena, the Peace Prayer by Saint Francis of Assisi, began on July 14.

People of all faith communities, civic leaders, law enforcement personnel and all concerned citizens are invited to join the prayer vigil to remember, reflect and pray.

Peace Prayer
Saint Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace; where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is error, the truth; where there is doubt, the faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
