The 4th Annual Ignited by Truth Conference, to be held February 17-18, features some well-known speakers, including an author of a New York Times best-seller.

George Weigel, who wrote Witness to Hope: The Biography of John Paul II, will offer three sessions; Our Role in the New Evangelization, The Courage to Live and Witness to our Catholic Faith, and Young Catholics: A Powerful Weapon in the Call to Holiness.

Weigel is the Senior Fellow of the Ethics and Public Policy Center in Washington, D.C. and a consultant on Vatican affairs for NBC News. His latest book is titled, God’s Choice: Pope Benedict XVI and the Future of the Catholic Church.

Stephen Ray, producer of the "Footprints of God" video series will present two sessions. On Friday evening, Ray will discuss "Crossing the Tiber and Discovering the Historical Church." His Saturday session is titled, "Peter, the Rock, the Keys and the Chair."

The "Footprints of God" series has been an enjoyable project for Ray, who conceived the idea and presented it to Father Joseph Fessio, president of Ignatius Press, who provided funding for the ambitious undertaking. The multiple set includes Jesus: The Word Became Flesh, Mary: The Mother of God, Paul: Contending for the Faith, Peter: The Keeper of the Keys and two more currently in production.

The conference will begin Friday evening at 7:00 pm with Father James Garneau, pastor of Saint Mary Parish, Mount Olive, will discuss "Nuances of Church History Revealing God's Path." Father Garneau has received a doctorate in church history from Catholic University of America, a subject he taught as a professor at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio.

Father Daniel Oschwald, pastor of Anunciation Church in Havelock, will present a student breakout session on Saturday afternoon titled "Real Men on a Quest for Adventure." Father Oschwald had served previously as assistant vocations director.

For those interested in attending the session, registration will be accepted at the door. The event will take place at Cardinal Gibbons High School. Complete information is available under the Diocesan Calendar of Events.
