The Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge celebrated Mass for the Second Sunday of Easter at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Raleigh. The Bishop noted the late Pope John Paul II named the day Divine Mercy Sunday during the Jubilee Year 2000.

Pointing to the Gospel readings of the day, Bishop Burbidge spoke of “the great gift of forgiveness of Sins we celebrate in the Sacrament of Penance.”

“The celebration of Divine Mercy requires an acknowledgement of our need for this precious gift; a recognition of those areas of our lives in need of healing,” the Bishop said. “In the midst of our sins, God loves us. God embraces us. God forgives us.”

“As the Lord reminded Saint Faustina and each one of us,” the Bishop added, “He simply asks that we say with deep faith, ‘Jesus I trust in you.’”

During the Mass, Bishop Burbidge bestowed the Sacrament of Confirmation on eight men and women of the community.
