Catholic churches in the Diocese of Raleigh and throughout the world on Good Friday commemorated the Passion and Death of Our Lord.

Thousands of faithful in the Diocese took part in Stations of the Cross and in the Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion, which included the Veneration of the Cross.

The Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge led an estimated 700 people at a Way of the Cross noon-time procession at Saint Raphael the Archangel Church in Raleigh.

At 3:00 PM, the Bishop presided at the Liturgy of the Passion at Sacred Heart Cathedral. In his homily, the Bishop spoke of the suffering in our lives and the cross that each of us carries. “That is what it means to be His disciple,” the Bishop said, “to walk in His footsteps and to share in His sufferings.”

“Of all the spiritual messages we receive today,” the Bishop added, “I believe the Lord is asking that we meditate upon and trust in his great love for us, a love that knew no limits.
