Permanent Deacons Recognized at Special Mass

On Saturday, November 22nd, the Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge celebrated a special Mass with permanent deacons of the Diocese at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Raleigh. The Bishop had designated that day as Deacon Appreciation Day in the Diocese of Raleigh. In his homily, the Bishop encouraged the deacons to ask themselves the question, “How am I going to get to heaven?”

“If we are going to get to heaven,” the Bishop continued, “we must be vigilant and… unite ourselves to Christ’s cross and suffering.” He asked the deacons to renew the promises they made at Ordination, and assured them that “faithfulness to your ministry will unite you ever closer with the Lord and put you on the path to holiness.”
