Bishop Burbidge Appointed to Two National Committees
The Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge has accepted appointment to two national committees of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. They are the Committee on Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations, chaired by Cardinal Sean O’Malley of Boston, and the Committee on Migration, chaired by Bishop John Wester of Salt Lake City.
“I consider it a privilege to serve on both committees,” Bishop Burbidge said. “In addition to the contributions the committees will offer to the Church in the United States, I am particularly grateful that they directly impact upon the life of the Church in the Diocese of Raleigh.
“Our Diocese is blessed to serve an ever increasing number of immigrants,” the Bishop added, noting that the Diocese of Raleigh has been one of the ten fastest growing Dioceses in the country in Hispanic population in the last ten years.
Since his installation in August, 2006 as Bishop of the Diocese of Raleigh, Bishop Burbidge has made an increase in vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life one of his top priorities. “We are truly gifted by the presence of so many faithful priests, dedicated Religious, wonderful seminarians and hopefully, more vocations to the Priesthood and Consecrated Life,” the Bishop said. “It is my hope and prayer that my participation in the work of these committees will enhance the service I am able to offer in the Diocese of Raleigh.”
