The US Catholic bishops held their 2013 fall general meeting November 11-14, 2013, in Baltimore. During the four-day assembly, the bishops received a report on the typhoon that devastated a large portion of the Philippines and decided on action to assist the survivors, received an update on the relief efforts in Haiti, dealt with matters of worship and teaching, and issued several timely statements and documents, including a special message on the HHS Mandate.
The bishops also discussed the request by the Holy See for all bishops to complete a survey on the Church’s ministry to families that will be used to assist the Synod of Bishops that will meet at the Vatican in October 2014 on the subject.
Bishop Michael F. Burbidge has invited all the faithful in the Diocese to participate in the survey by making it available on the Diocesan website. In a video interview, he discussed the importance of the survey and other topics that took center stage at the USCCB’s fall general assembly.
