Bishop Burbidge offers the following statement regarding the tragic shooting in San Bernardino:
With profound sadness, we learned of the murder of 14 people and the wounding of 17 others during a shooting in San Bernardino, California. In solidarity with my brother Bishop of the Diocese of San Bernardino, Bishop Gerald Barnes, I ask the Catholic faithful in the Diocese of Raleigh and all people of good will to pray for these victims and their families. I have requested that a special prayer be offered at all Masses this weekend for the victims of the shooting and their families as well as for all those who serve to protect us and our communities.
In this sacred season and always, let us also continue to pray for the gift of Christ’s peace in our country and in our world and within our hearts. May we always find our strength and consolation in Our Lord and His promise to be with us especially in our time of need.
