Bishop Burbidge Requests Prayers for Pope Francis

The Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge issued the following statement upon the election of Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio to the office of Supreme Pontiff:

I join with the faithful of the Diocese of Raleigh and the Church throughout the world in this joyous time as our Holy Father, Pope Francis, begins his ministry as Universal Shepherd of the Catholic Church.

In accepting this discernment of God’s Spirit, it is with deep humility that Our Holy Father bowed, as the Servant of the Servants of God, requesting our prayers. I ask all of the faithful of the Diocese of Raleigh and people of faith throughout eastern North Carolina to pray for Pope Francis, that he may confirm us in faith, guide us in simplicity of heart and strengthen us in the mission of Christ, always.
