Bishop Burbidge Calls for Passage of Immigration Reform

In a statement released on Sunday, September 8, 2013, the Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge called on Catholics in the Diocese of Raleigh to join him in calling on members of the House of Representatives to take action on the urgent need for passage of a comprehensive immigration reform bill.

The statement was issued at the conclusion of a Mass of Thanksgiving celebrated at the Basilica Shrine of Saint Mary in Wilmington. Pointing to the U.S. Senate’s passage of a comprehensive reform bill in June, S-744, Bishop Burbidge said, while the proposed legislation is not perfect, it is one that he and his brother bishops can support. He urged the faithful in the Diocese to contact their U.S. House members to support immigration reform legislation that “while protecting our borders, provides for legalization of those undocumented in our country.”
