On July 14, Bishop Michael F. Burbidge blessed the convent of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament of Onitsha (Nigeria) in Wilson, NC. The Order established their North American headquarters at the Saint Alphonus Center in May of 2016.
Bishop Burbidge was greeted with joyful singing led by the Superior General, Sister Catherine Okechuku, SBS,N and Sister Catherine and Sister Amelia in choir.
Following a prayer service, Bishop Burbidge blessed the chapel and living residence of the home. Msgr. David D. Brockman, Vicar General of the Diocese of Raleigh, and Fr. Joseph Oji, Chaplin of the Igbo Catholic Community of Raleigh, as well as laity were also in attendance.
After the blessing, the sisters presented Bishop Burbidge with handmade vestments and other gifts.
“The Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament of Onitsha-Nigeria want you to be assured of our prayers; and we pray, too, that your act of generosity and kindness to our young congregation will be rewarded a thousand fold in this world and in the next,” remarked Sister Catherine Okechukwu, Mother Superior.
