Bishop asks for prayers for hurricane victims

I ask the faithful to please join me in prayer for those who have been impacted by recent, catastrophic storms. We pray together for those in Texas and Louisiana impacted by Hurricane Harvey; and we pray for those in the Caribbean islands, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina impacted by Hurricane Irma.

We also pray for the safety of the first responders and all those assisting their neighbors in the recovery. We are thankful for the faithful who contributed to last weekend’s collection during Mass to benefit storm victims.

Like many others throughout the world, the faithful in North Carolina understand the impact of devastating storms. Even today, almost a year after Hurricane Matthew, the recovery from that storm continues, and Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Raleigh continues to assist families.

Please know that work and commitment will continue with an open heart as we also assist our brothers and sisters who are victims of recent storms. Catholic Charities is connected with several agencies in Florida and is ready to respond as needed.

May our Lord Jesus keep all those impacted by Hurricanes Matthew, Harvey and Irma in His loving care and may Mary Our Mother watch over all those who are suffering.

Bishop of Raleigh
